Quality & Care in One Package
Measuring 10 metres long and 3.7 metres wide, and weighing 11 tonnes, the water band screen presented a number of logistical challenges, requiring specialist transport, coordinated lifting operations and a bespoke export packing solution.

The project began with the collection of the unpacked unit from an engineering company in South Wales. Due to its dimensions, the equipment was transported to Pennex under an out-of-gauge escorted load movement order, ensuring the wide-load movement was managed safely and efficiently.
On arrival at Pennex, the team coordinated a tandem crane lift to offload the equipment onto a prefabricated 10-metre wooden base, providing a secure foundation for the next stage of the process.
With the unit safely positioned, Pennex carried out specialist export packing, constructing a robust wooden crate designed to protect the equipment during its international journey.
Once prepared for shipment, the oversized cargo was arranged for transportation to Australia using a flat rack container, a suitable solution for accommodating equipment that exceeds the dimensions of standard shipping containers.

The water band screen will be installed within an underground chamber at the Lihir Gold Mine. During operation, the unit is positioned vertically, allowing its rotating screens to filter waste water as part of the mining process.
The successful handling of this equipment demonstrates Pennex’s ability to manage complex industrial cargo, combining specialist transport coordination, heavy lifting and export packing to deliver a cost-effective and efficient logistics solution.
